Facilities services to end users at Alstom Transport
Alstom Transport (Preston) manufactures electrical components for rolling stock. The contract was subject to a revision of the original Head Agreement and commenced on 2001.
Organisational review of facility management services
All existing contracts between Alstom and their suppliers/subcontractors were novated by Faceo FM UK on the contract start date. A full review of the contracts was completed within the first year and either renegotiated or terminated accordingly. Faceo also completed a review of the in-house maintenance structure during the first year.
Cost reduction of end-user services
During the first eighteen months various cost reduction initiatives through efficiency were proposed and accepted, namely a reduction in the costs of the catering subsidy and costs of security.
Performance measurement of the facilities services
Faceo site staff developed Key Performance Indicators that had not previously existed. These were seen as innovative and were trialled in partnership with the clients’ on-site representatives. The success of these were soon realized and modified to be implemented in other contracts. It was agreed that the overall performance of the site services product had improved, and comments on this were reported during monthly client meetings.
New facility management contract
When the manufacturing element of the business at Preston was to close by the end of 2003, Faceo were served with a termination letter. It was clear that the other Alstom companies on site would try to stay in business, subject to the leasing arrangements remaining as they were; as a result, this developed into a new potential business for Faceo FM UK. The services were already being delivered via the existing client. A revised contract was subsequently drawn up, to become effective on 2004. This was based on a complete review and revision of the service provision.
