Interview of one of our Security Manager
What is the purpose of the Global Security Management offer?
There is a real customer demand for expertise in security (protection of people, buildings, and information systems) and fire protection. Our customers are looking for a specialised facility manager who is able to propose risk management policies and to implement them.
The function of the Security Manager is sprung from a detailed study of current offers in security and especially man guarding services. In addition to consulting duties, a security manager has to monitor and supervise security services.
The Security Manager aims are to develop a trust building approach with his Client and a real partnership spirit with his subcontractors. His missions are as following:
- monitor man guarding services
- optimize and control costs over contract duration
- guarantee compliance with regulations and laws
- propose solutions to reach the right “man/machine” balance
- interface efficiently with clients, subcontractors, Faceo and the public security authority
What areas does Security Manager’s expertise cover?
The Security Manager deals with a dedicated area of expertise (fire protection, global security etc.) But he is foremost a risk management professional and has a great knowledge of the other areas. A team of security managers can benefit from different but complementary profiles, thus it would be more appropriate to speak about it the sense of a Safety Security Manager.
Are Security and Facility Management complementary?
Most of the time, I’m working with the client, my subcontractor in man guarding services and Faceo. The Global Security Management comes within this environment and places Security at the heart of building maintenance activities. This link between security and maintenance makes possible information sharing among players (client, subcontractor, Faceo). That collaboration leads to optimisation in decision making and enables us to avoid habits which may bring risk.
Can you describe the relationship between the client and the Security Manager?
First, the Security Manager has to develop a trust building approach with his client. Security and safety are sensitive areas. Knowledge in these areas is different from a client to another one. Therefore, real prevention work has to be done with an efficient method to make the client understand security issues. The Security Manager takes over daily tasks. He has to interface day to day with the client and follow up very carefully, security activities on site.
Furthermore, the Security Manager has to anticipate client needs, “translate” them and express them to his subcontractors. He makes needs clear when they are wrongly identified. He coordinates all players of the Client environment.
What qualities are necessary to be a good Safety-Security Manager?
A good Safety Security Manager is attentive to client’s issues. Availability is key.
How did you integrate Faceo Sécurité et Prévention?
After working in a Thales Security Department, I was an independent consultant in security. I proposed a project to Faceo. I integrated Faceo Sécurité Prévention in April 2003 in order to take part in a Global Security Management project, the first steps related to a market survey of the European Security Industry. Before my contract with Faceo ended, I applied for my first job as Security Manager created within a contract with Alcatel Headquarters. This has progressed so that I am now in charge of around ten sites.
Why did you choose Faceo?
Faceo offers organisation intelligence and facilities management services. I find this concept really relevant. Moreover, Faceo is a dynamic company attentive to new projects. Faceo innovates in high tech solutions (its e-tools). The work can sometimes be demanding but I like the challenges and the feeling of carrying out an important role.
