From an FM point of view, the notion of Outsourcing refers to the transfer of the functions of Facility Services to an external company. The Facility Manager takes responsibility for delivering the services performance corresponding to the facility services function assigned under a contract. The transfer can include the whole or a part of the human and material resources.
Where the outsourcing of facility services through multiple providers becomes highly sensitive, the responsibilities need to be clearly defined. Outsourcing through a single provider, a Facility Manager, ensures a coherence of actions and a unique responsibility.
The position of the Facility Manager as a unique interface allows the optimisation of the “cost versus performance” balance and clearly defines the sole responsibility.
